9/11

A contested election ends, dividing our country in half, united again by an unspeakable act of violence. The frayed ends of torn relationships are temporarily mended by images never before seen. Our hearts cry out for those lost souls. Vengeance will be ours in Afghanistan! Shop! Shop! Shop! Your freedom depends on it! Now let’s go to Iraq! Another contested election, another fallen city, more lives ruined. Gitmo! Torture! Enhanced Interrogation Techniques! Global Warming!

8 long years…we are more divided than ever. What exactly does 9/11 mean?

The innocent died together. Some died helping each other, trying to get out of the wreckage so that they can see their loved ones again. Heroes rushed from floor to floor looking for souls to save without thinking of their own lives or loved ones. No gender. No race. No religion. No country status. Nothing mattered that day...Just the hope to get out alive.

We were the United States of America for a little while after that day.

Today we can’t talk about healthcare reform without calling each other Nazis and socialists! I wonder what 3000 souls looking down at us today as we grieve for them think about who we have become over these last 8 years…

Now, excuse me, I think I just heard the man on the TV say that consumer confidence is at an all time low…So I think I’ll apply for another credit card so I can do my part…Change.
